Bandipur

Bandipur was established as a funnelling point of trade by Newar traders from Bhaktapur in the kathmandu valley after it had been conquered in 1768 by Prithvi Narayan Shah.Bandipur has only recently surfaced on the traditional tourist map,it is located only a short drive away from pokhara. These days, the main reason people come here is for the views. Visiter can enjoy here by visiting main bazaar of the town sits 1000m beneath limestone hills, the stunning views of north, looking out to the dramatic Marsyangdi valley with the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges behind. There are good rural village walks available, and caves to visit nearby.
After 19th century,Bandipur developed into a prosperous trading centre and a community with town-like features: substantial buildings, with their neoclassical façades and shuttered windows and streets paved with silverish slate. It is famous for Newari architecture. For technical reasons it was logically built in the Marsyangdi valley, leaving Bandipur isolated up on the mountain. In addition to that, as a result of its poor accessibility, Bandipur lost importance because the district headquarters of Tahahu were moved to Damauli. The tradesmen of Bandipur were forced to move down to Dumre and many even left for the Terai; Bandipur turned into a semi-ghost town. Most of the buildings still have little shops in them.

JANAKPUR

Janakpur has been a centre for hindu pilgrimages since at least the fourth century BC.When the story of Sita, the wife of lord Rama and daughter of king Janak of Mithiila, was written down in the Ramayana. Even today the town feels closer to the Hindu town of India than the tribal townships of Nepal. One one level Janakpur is a tourist town. Many pligrims of india come Nepal visit to Janakpur. The huge Janaki temple attracts pligrims from across the subcontinent. The best time is to visit is during the Hindu festival of Sita Bibaha Panchami.
Not only the temple but the another most attracting thing in Janakpur is the Mithila culture. Janakpur was once the capital of the ancient kingdom Mithila. More than two million people still speak Maithili as their mothers tongue. The people of Mithila are widely known for their wildly colorful paintings. Mithila art is primitive in the  fine art sense and it offers fascinating window onto rural life in the Terai. The city mythologised in the Ramayana esisted around 700BC, but it was abandoned later and sank back into the forest. Janakpur's most important temple is dedicated to Sita. According to Ramayana Sita was kidnapped by a demon king called Ravan. And Ram sped south to save her, sided by the loyal monkey god, Hanuman. Ram is regarded as incarnation of lord Vishnu and Sita is regarded as  an incarnation of Laxmi. Built in extravagent baroque Mughal style, the janaki mandir is  believed to stand on the exact spot where King Janak found the infant sita lying in the furrow of a ploughed field. The temple seems to be very old by its arches, domes, turrets and screens though it is dated 1912 . The steady stream of pilgrims files in through the gatehouse. The important temples around the Janaki Mandir are Ram Sita Bibaha Mandir, Ram mandir and dhanush sagar. Mithila art is very important aspect of Janakpur. Traditionally Mithila paintings were used for decoration. We can still see houses in Terai with abstract patterns or complex senses of village life painted in white and ochre on the mud walls.
In this manner Janakpur is the fusion of religious belief and the awesome Mithila art. It is obvious that visiting these kind of places is the way of gaining knowledge toward history and art.

TANSEN (PALPA)

The former capital of the Magar kingdom of Tanahun, Tansen is a romantic medieval hill town, perched high above the kali gandaki river on the road between Butwal and Pokhara. The visitors fell easy to fill several days by exploring the town and by having some excellent walks in the hills. Until the raise of sahas , Tanahu was one of the most powerful kingdom in Nepal. Around the tansen there are the great views over the bowl-shaped Madi Valley.
A sheet of mist normally hangs over the valley till mid morning, earning its nickname 'White lake'. for sweeping himalayas views, head upto shreenagar dada, the forested peak above Tansen. You may get lost in the narrow jumbled streets of Tansen, but it will be a part of pleasure. The most important landmark is the sitalpati, the main market square. Sitalpati and Amar Narayan Mandir are places to visit, but the most important heritage of tansen is Tansen Darwar . This is probably the most striking building in tansen. The Durbar is now the administrative centre of local government. The large modern temple Bhagwati Mandir, shreenagar dada, Bhairav sthan temple are other attracting features of Tansen. Around tansen we can visit more popular tourism places such as Ranighat Durbar on the bank of the kali gandaki river,Ridi Bazar, the festival occurs in the feast day-'Magh shakranti'. On the 80 km northwest of Tansen in Syangja district the remote Gurung village 'Sirubari' has been developed as a destination for the cultural tourism. Far from a tacky tourist experience, this is like a rural homestay -accomodation and meals are provided by local farmers and the only way is on foot, via a four hour trek from Syangja on the siddartha highway. The village is full of traditional stone buildings.
In this way your journey from lumbini to Pokhara will be more memorable if you visit Tansen and Sirubari on the way.

LUMBINI

Lumbini, the historical birthplace of lord Gautama Buddha, the lord of peace and founder of Buddism. Lumbini is one of the most important religious sites in world. The man who would later achieve enlightenment under a Bodhi tree, inspiring a global philosophy of peace and reflection, was born under a sal tree in Lumbini in 563 BC. We can hear the meditating monks saying 'Lumbini has undergone a major renaissance over the last few years, and new monastries are springing up faster here than you can say 'om mani padme hum'.
After years of work at lumbini , archaeologists are now fairly certain that Gautam buddha was indeed born in Lumbini,Nepal. Anyone can spend here one or two days exploring the sites. The maya devi temple is the centre of lumbini. The revered Maya devi temple sits on the exact site of the birth of the Buddha. Here we can descern the shape of maya devi grasping a sal branch and giving birth to the Buddha. The pond beside the temple is believed to be where Maya devi bathed before giving birth to Buddha. The another important historical document of Lumbini is Ashoka pillar. An Indian imperor Ashoka visited lumbini in 249 BC leaving behind a sandstone pillar to commemorate the occasion. Since the  Lumbini Development Zone was founded in 1978, Buddhist nations from around the world have constructed extravagent monasteries around the birthplace of the Buddha. A large building where the footprints of Buddha in a stone is also a important site to see. Not only this but the various pagoda stupas made by China and Korea are very much artistic and meaningful. Outside the main compound we can visit World Peace Pagoda and Lumbini Crane Sanchuary.
One who visit Lumbini he not only visits the religious place of Buddhists but he also visits a naturally gifted place and the combined art from all over the world.
